Returfing

From £16 per m²

Turf laid on unprepared ground looks perfect for one season and then reverts to whatever was underneath it. Almost every failed lawn we are called to on a new-build estate is turf that was rolled straight onto compacted subsoil and site rubble by the developer.

So we lift the old surface, break up the compaction to a spade’s depth, remove what should not be there, bring in screened topsoil where the profile is too thin, and level and firm before anything green arrives. On a typical 90m² garden that is two days of preparation and half a day of laying.

Turf comes from a grower near Farnham who cuts to order — it is on your lawn within 24 hours of being lifted, which matters more than the cultivar does. We water it in, and we come back at two weeks and six weeks to check it has knitted, at no extra charge.
