Chafer grubs: the damage is done by the birds
If your lawn is being torn up overnight, the grubs are only half the problem. Here is how to tell what you have and what actually works.
We are an independent lawn care company in Guildford. Every plan we write starts with what your soil actually says, not a schedule everybody in the postcode gets. Five visits a year, six treatments, and no contract.

Written from a soil test of your lawn, adjusted each year as the results change.
From 210+ Google reviews. About 4% of customers leave each year, mostly on moving.
No minimum term and no notice period. Cancel by email and we stop.
One person looks after your lawn all year, and knows what it did last season.
A lush lawn is mostly soil science and timing. It needs feed the soil is actually short of, applied when the grass can use it, on ground that water and air can get into — and none of that is available in a bag from a garden centre.
We are BASIS and NPTC qualified, we use professional products at professional rates, and we would rather tell you your lawn needs aerating twice than sell you another feed it cannot absorb.
6 Treatment, 5 Visit™ Programme
Our year-round programme, built around what your soil test actually says rather than a standard schedule. Five visits, six treatments, one technician who knows your lawn.
Thatch, moss and compaction
The two mechanical jobs that make everything else work. Take out the thatch, open up the soil, and a lawn that has stopped responding to feed starts responding again.
For tired or worn lawns
For lawns too far gone for a treatment plan but not far enough gone to dig up. Scarify hard, aerate, overseed, top dress — one autumn, and a different lawn by May.
A fresh start
When the lawn underneath is beyond saving. We handle the part that decides everything — what is under the turf — rather than just the part you can see.
Verdant was started in 2008 by Rob Aldous after eleven years on golf greens at a course near Godalming. Greenkeeping is where most of what we do comes from — the difference is that a green gets looked at every day and a domestic lawn gets looked at five times a year, so the five have to count.
There are five of us now, all BASIS or NPTC qualified, and we cover about a twenty-five-minute drive from Guildford. We keep the round tight on purpose: a lawn care business that spreads out stops turning up when it said it would.
What we get asked most, answered properly.

A little is good for a lawn. More than about 12mm and it stops your feed, water and everything else from reaching the roots.
Dark green arcs, sometimes with toadstools, sometimes with dead grass. Three different types, and only one of them is really a problem.
From £24 a visit for a lawn up to 100m². A typical Guildford back garden of around 150m² is £31 a visit, five visits a year — so £155 for the year. We quote per lawn after measuring it, and the price does not change mid-programme.
No. There is no minimum term and no notice period. Cancel by email and we stop. Roughly 4% of customers leave in a given year, most of them because they have moved house.
Once the treatment has dried, which is about two hours in normal conditions and longer in still damp weather. We text you when we are on the way and leave a card saying what was applied and when it is safe.
Colour changes within ten to fourteen days of the first feed. Weeds take three to four weeks to fully die back. Thickness — the thing most people actually want — takes a full season, and on a badly compacted lawn it takes two.
No. We work on the lawn, not in the house. We just need access to the back garden — a gate we can open, or a key safe. Tell us about the dog.
Guildford, Godalming, Woking, Farnham, Cranleigh and the villages between. We do not travel beyond about a 25-minute drive from Guildford, because a lawn care round that spreads out stops being reliable.
